TCP Congestion Control Comparison
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper investigates the effects that different TCP variants have on each other. The TCP variants differ in the congestion control algorithms they employ. The congestion control algorithms determine how much network traffic is generated by TCP at any one time, and aims to prevent a TCP connection from over utilising the network. We investigate the different congestion control algorithms that are included as loadable modules in the Linux kernel, and we present several experiments to investigate how these congestion control algorithms compete for network resources. We show that some TCP variants can co-exist, whilst others use excessive bandwidth, potentially smothering competing TCP connections.

Analysis of TCP-friendly Congestion Control Algorithms
TCP is the dominant transport protocol in the Internet. However, the increase-by-one decrease-to-half strategy used by TCP is not suitable for many multimedia applications. Many TCP-friendly congestion control algorithms have been proposed as an alternative to the TCP to suit the needs of multimedia applications. In this paper, we analyze the short-term behavior of three TCP-friendly congestion...
متن کاملDesign of H Congestion Controller for TCP Networks Based on LMI Formulation
In this paper, a state feedback H¥ controller is proposed in order to design an active queue management (AQM) system based on congestion control algorithm for networks supporting TCP protocols. In this approach, the available link bandwidth is modeled as a time-variant disturbance. The purpose of this paper is to design a controller which is capable of achieving the queue size and can guarantee...
متن کاملA Comparison of Equation-Based and AIMD Congestion Control
This paper considers AIMD-based (Additive-Increase Multiplicative-Decrease) congestion control mechanisms that are TCP-compatible (i.e., that compete reasonably fairly with TCP), but that reduce their sending rate less sharply than does TCP in response to a single packet drop. The paper then briefly compares these smoother AIMD-based congestion control mechanisms with TFRC (TCP-Friendly Rate Co...
متن کاملA Modified Congestion Control Algorithm for Evaluating High BDP Networks
It is well known that the TCP congestion control algorithm has been remarkably successful in improving the current TCP/IP function better and efficiently. However, it can perform poorly in networks with high Bandwidth Delay Product (BDP) paths. This paper presents modification to a congestion control algorithm that may help the TCP better utilize the bandwidth provided by huge bandwidth long de...
متن کاملA Comprehensive Analysis and Comparison of TCP Tahoe, TCP Reno and TCP Lite
There are various TCP variants and each one belongs to a different criteria. In this paper we discuss about the congestion problem in Adhoc networks and compare the performance of three TCP variants that all work on different techniques. This paper compares TCP variants specifically TCP Tahoe, Reno and Lite based on different parameters such as number of nodes received with error, packet loss, ...
